Ophthalmic Technician/Assistant

Position: Ophthalmic Technician

Reports To: Operations Manager

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Job Summary:

The Ophthalmic Technician assists in patient evaluations, conducts diagnostic tests, and supports clinical procedures in ophthalmology practice. Responsibilities include patient data collection, performing eye assessments, equipment maintenance, and aiding both the ophthalmologist and patients.

Job Responsibilities

  • Greet and assess patients, documenting medical history and ocular findings.
  • Perform pre-exam tests, visual acuity assessments, tonometry, and pupillary evaluations.
  • Conduct specialized tests such as visual fields and ophthalmic photography.
  • Administer tonometry and manifest refraction.
  • Assist in medication administration and in-office procedures.
  • Act as a scribe during examinations and oversee patient flow.
  • Manage prescription refills and patient education.
  • Ensure equipment calibration and proper functioning.
  • Monitor medical refrigerator temperature and inventory.
  • Maintain inventory, order supplies, and conduct routine checks.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and surgical instrument preparation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms.
  • Comply with healthcare regulations and practice procedures.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in ophthalmic practices.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge, Ability, & Skills:
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in ophthalmic practices and patient care.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, OSHA).
  • Attention to detail and adaptability.
  • CPR trained for emergencies.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $21.00 - $29.00 per hour
